Our history
A family-run business since 1964, by people and for people.
At Nesco, craftsmanship has always been at the core of what we do. And we still strive to deliver the best organic mushrooms in Europe. Every day, for almost 60 years now.
1964
Piet, father of Noud Spetgens, starts growing mushrooms early on. First using a rented farm site in Kessel and later from a privately owned farm in Liessel.
1976
Jan van den Elsen’s farm opens in Sint-Oedenrode, later taken over by his son Joseph. Where the first years still required a lot of manpower, machines increasingly took over the heavy work.
1984
Farm of Ton Smits and later son Jeroen Smits starts up in Gemert.
2000
Riny Nusselder and Teunie Bloem build a new farm In Hernen, Gelderland.
2008
Riny, Jozef and Jeroen meet at a study club for young mushroom growers. They partner up more and more and set up the company “Nesco” with their own growers.
2012
The future is organic. From this year on, organic cultivation gets underway, a packaging line and truck are also acquired.
2018
Merger Nesco with Bio Europe, a trading company in organic mushrooms. As a result of this merger, there is more control in the chain and even better demand can be generated.

Future
Mushroom cultivation is changing at a rapid pace. Getting involved in development is important. We still have so many plans and hope to be able to achieve them in the coming years.
